As LG seeks to turnaround its handset business, last quarter has
brought some positives for the company. In an interview with
Reuters,LG’s mobile business head Park Jong-seok stated that LG saw
results improving “a lot” in the fourth quarter thanks to solid sales of
its Optimus LTE model, which went on sale in early October.
The strategy solidifies LG’s shift from entry-level cellphones to more sophisticated and expensive handsets. “A couple years ago, we were known as a feature phone company,” acknowledged Dr. Jong-seok Park, the President and Chief Executive of LG Electronics‘ Mobile Communications division, in an interview at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). “Last year, we quickly switched to being a smartphone company.”..............
