Apple iPad vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7100) and Apple iPad are both larger tablets that both measure in at roughly 10 inches. Samsung has come to market with a new tablet with excellent features and Apple has basically released the the first successful tablet ever. Apple iPad was released in 2010. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the latest tablet to be released by Samsung at the MWC 2011 at the beginning February 2011. The major differences between Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7100) and Apple iPad is the operating system (Android 3.0 vs iOS 4.2), processor speed (1GHz Dual core Vs 1GHz single core), and camera (8 megapixels and the camera is missing in iPad). Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with the name tag 10.1 to differentiate it from the previous Galaxy Tab model.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 10.1 inches WXGA TFT LCD display (1280×800), Nvidia dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and powered by Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The Honeycomb platform was exclusively designed for large screen devices such as tablets. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is made power efficient with low power DDR2 memory and 6860mAh battery. It’s also very light weight and slim, only 599 grams and 10.9mm thickness.

In the context of multimedia, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 8 megapixel rear and 2 MP front facing cameras with dual surround sound speakers that will provide a wonderful multimedia experience.

Apple iPad
Apple iPad is also a large sized tablet with 9.7” Multitouch LED backlit display using IPS technology that enables wide viewing angle (178 degrees). The display is designed to show the content in any orientation, in portrait or landscape. The device is powered by Apple’s own propriety operating system, iOS 4.2.1.

Some of the special features of iOS 4 are the Multi-tasking, AirPrint, AirPlay and find myiPhone. Using AirPrint you can print the message through wi-fi or 3G. The special feature of iOS 4 is the support for display of multiple languages simultaneously.

Apple Safari browser used in iPad is amazing on the large screen with the multi touch interface redesigned for large screen. There’s also a handy thumbnail view that shows all your open pages in a grid, so you can quickly move from one page to the next.

Another notable feature of iPad is its battery life, it is claimed to be 10 hours while surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, or listening to music and on 3G data network, it is around 8 hours. The iPad’s other major plus is its access to Apple Apps Store which has hundred thousands of applications and iTunes. Android is still padding out its Marketplace for tablet apps.
